Install the modX installation files on your server


Getting the modX installation files on your server from the modX installation zip file you've downloaded to your local hard drive. These instructions assume you have administrative access to your servers control panel (cpanel). You will be able to run the modX installation program from your web browser once you have completed these steps.



1. From your server (cpanel) control panel, click on file manager.

2. Click on the directory where you want to upload the install files, in this case - I'm using the root 'www' directory.

3. We're wanting to get the zip file from your local drive to the server, click on "Upload file(s)"

4. To access your local drive and locate the installation zip, click on "Browse"

5. On your local drive where you've downloaded the installation zip, click on the zip to upload.

6. Once the path has been selected, click on "Upload".

7. When the upload is finished, click on the zip file. At the right hand side the file manager will display file options (8)

8. Click on "Extract File Contents". This will unzip the contents and open a new window listing all the files unzipped. Close that window, and refresh the window where the original zip file is located.

9. Now we're finished with the original zip file, so click on it to show the file options at the right hand side of the file manager.

10. Click on "Delete File" - this will move the zip to the trash can, and we will (11)

11. Click on the trash can to empty it - only then, is the zip file permanently removed from the server.

And now the install files are on the server - we can now create a database for modX to use.
